2021: The Beginning and "Invisible Threads"
17 – 19 September 2021
In 2021, we launched SOFIA LIGHTS – a project that became a true sensation and changed the perception of cultural events in an urban environment. For the first time, the city witnessed a large-scale immersive outdoor light experience that transformed Vrana Park into a shared art space with its magical reality.
This first edition attracted a huge audience and proved that Sofia needs events of a new type. Holding the festival in Vrana Park was a strategic decision – transforming the city’s periphery into a significant cultural point is a key part of our mission for the decentralization of cultural life in the capital. As part of the Calendar of Cultural Events of the Sofia Municipality, we showed that magic can happen anywhere.
Set against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, the central piece of the edition was the light installation ‘Invisible Threads’ by Iasen Geshev and Kalina Gesheva. It aimed to reveal the invisible: the threads that connect us to each other and to the world we inhabit.
This new format was a natural evolution for our team – after 10 years of large-scale urban art projects under the UrbanCreatures brand, we sought a new way to communicate with the audience, transferring our creative energy from urban architecture to the heart of nature.
